How do I start a recording?

Choose Record, then Start recording. Allow microphone access when prompted. On Android, allow the recording notification for background controls. Pause, resume or stop and save when you need. Rename the saved item from Listen.

Can I import audio without microphone permission?

Yes. Choose Import audio and select one file through the system picker. Notivox checks whether the device can decode it and keeps a private copy. Format support depends on the operating system and file encoding.

Why did recording pause?

Choosing a photo deliberately pauses capture, and calls or audio-route changes can interrupt it. Review the pause information and explicitly resume when ready. Pauses add no time to your audio’s moment coordinates.

Where are my notes and photos?

Open the recording and scroll to Moments. Tap a timestamp to return to its place in the audio. Notes and photos stay with that recording; title and note-text search and collections can help you find it again.

Does silence skip change my recording?

No. It skips quiet passages while listening and keeps the original timestamps. It can miss quiet speech, so turn it off when detail matters. This feature does not transcribe or summarize speech.

How do I share just one part?

Open Select clip, set the start and end times, preview it and save a separate clip. In Export clip, choose audio alone or Include note text, then Choose destination. The ZIP contains audio and text, not photo attachments. The source recording stays unchanged.

How do I make a backup?

Open Settings → Backup & restore. Enter and confirm a password of at least 12 characters, prepare the encrypted copy, then explicitly save it to a destination. “Ready to save” means you still need to choose where to keep it. Store the password safely and separately.

What happens when I restore?

Select your Notivox backup, enter its password and review the verified preview. Nothing is imported until you confirm. Identical items skip; different content with the same ID is rejected without overwriting. A forgotten password cannot be recovered.

Is device lock the same as encryption?

No. Optional device lock uses your device’s authentication to protect app access. It does not separately encrypt the local library. Password-encrypted backup files are a separate feature.

Do I need an account or connection?

No account is required for core recording, notes and playback. There is no automatic cloud sync. A cloud file provider you choose may need a connection or its own account. Usage analytics, ads and purchases are disabled in the current configuration.
